Woodlands Church in The Woodlands, Texas seats about 4,500 people. They hold three services a weekend, with a Saturday night service and two on Sunday morning. They also remotely stream to a satellite campus, and they’re currently opening a second satellite campus. As part of the Church Production Road Test User Experience, Woodlands Church Video Director Daryl Quinn evaluated Telemetrics RCCP Control Panel and Teleglide Robotic Trolley and Track.
“I would highly recommend this system to any church that is looking to elevate their production values..." - Darryl Quinn, Video Production Director, Woodlands Church, The Woodlands, Texas.
“One of the driving factors behind evaluating a system like this, we do have a dolly system that is fairly old. It's wide. It takes two operators, one a camera operator, and another a dolly operator. It takes a pretty skilled team in order to make those dolly moves consistent,” explains Quinn. “So that was one of the reasons why we wanted to try out a robotic system so that we can have consistent moves when we wanted consistency and repeatability out of a shot.”
Quinn says they also wanted a smaller footprint in the sanctuary. The Telemetrics RCCP Controller allows the operator to be away from the camera and work inside the control room, which also reduces that footprint. Another advantage they saw with the system was it used their current camera, a Sony HSC-100R, which made the transition very smooth.
“Our engineer was able to shade it appropriately, but our operator using the RCCP control panel was very easy to kind of get a handle on how to operate that by going from one preset to another, it would change our focus, it would change a zoom, or change the position along the track and where that was just by one simple touch on the touchscreen,” Quinn enthuses. “I would highly recommend this system to any church that is looking to elevate their production value by putting in a robotic camera system, which provides predictability and a great build quality, and something that your even volunteer operators could operate very, very quickly and repeatedly.”
