Tascam is known for their legendary recording equipment, a staple for both field and studio recording thanks to their respected preamps, but this year Tascam decided to jump into the deep end of the audio console pool with the new Sonicview 24XP, a 24-fader audio console absolutely packed with features for churches with small and large rooms alike.
The Tascam Sonicview Digital Recording and Live Sound Mixers have received the Church Production Road Test Certification.
Tascam partnered with Church Production and sent a unit for a test run at LifeMission Church in Kansas City for today’s video.
“This console? The Sonicview could be used in a thousand-plus size church,” says Patrick Robinson, the worship leader at LifeMission’s campus in Kansas City, Kansas (KCK). “It has the power to do those things. It has the availability for all kinds of different [configurations] and the effects plug-ins that are native to the console are extremely high quality. Honestly, I was surprised by the power. I mean, this thing has its own proprietary dedicated mix engine that operates apart from the other powering components of the console. It's got just a ton of power in it.”
Tascam’s design for the built-in effects makes the console particularly remarkable, as Joseph Cottle, the production director for LifeMission, notes, “So on a lot of consoles, you're really limited as far as how many effects you can put on your buses. Tascam allows you to just stack effects per channel. So the effects that are in the board, there's really limitless opportunities and possibilities for crafting your mix as opposed to what you get with other consoles or even sometimes like a Waves server or something like that.”
Of course, any good console needs to make sense to volunteers, and Tascam really nailed the user experience. “As far as having volunteers come up to the Tascam, I was actually really impressed. One of the first nights we used it, we had one of our guys who’s usually here on Sundays mixing at the KCK campus, and he had never used it before. And honestly, we didn't really prep him. We just said ‘here,’ and he latched onto it really quick,” Joseph said.
