Prestonwood Baptist Church's Director of Media, Bryan Bailey has more money budgeted for projector maintenance than he’d like for taking care of costly lamp-based repairs and lamp replacements. As part of the Church Production Road Test User Experience, Bailey was asked to give Epson’s EB-PU2116W Laser Projectors an audition in one of the Plano, Texas church’s children’s ministry spaces.
“The space that we were looking at using these projectors in is kind of like a worst-case scenario situation. It's a gym that splits in half to be used in two separate gyms. It's got natural light coming into it. It has gym lights in it,” Bailey explains. “It's just hard to imagine getting what we need bright enough for a good enough price that makes sense for that space.”
“There was just kind of this relief of, ‘Oh, finally, we have what we've been envisioning’..." - Bryan Bailey, Director of Media, Prestonwood Baptist Church.
The compact EB-PU2116W is designed to produce 16,000-lumen images from a standard 120 V power source and it features full HD WUXGA resolution with 4K enhancement technology. The three-projector wide display at Prestonwood was set up quickly and the results surprised Bailey.
“I think the first thing that kind of surprised me was they had only been there like an hour or an hour and a half, and I walked in and the blend was perfect. Everything matched across all three projectors, and it looked fantastic,” he says. “Laser technology alone gives you a color brightness that we didn't have before laser, but these projectors with the contrast ratio, it looks like it's just popping out of the wall at you.”
The EB-PU2116W uses a 20,000-hour virtually maintenance-free laser light source. It is also designed with a hermetically sealed optical engine for high dust resistance and a filterless cabinet for low-maintenance operation, which could help reduce Bailey’s projector maintenance fund.
Bailey concludes, “There was just kind of this relief of, ‘Oh, finally, we have what we've been envisioning’ and something that is finally great for the kids, something that the parents can be proud of, something that we can be unapologetic about. The reaction overall has been just extremely, not just positive, but very excited.”
