CPM: Tell us about your background.
Gonzalez: My first experience with audio was mixing the choir at my church when I was 10 years old. After high school, I ended up working for a local production company in Miami, Fla., called Interface Sound. Soon after, I graduated valedictorian from Full Sail [University in Winter Park, Fla.,] with a degree in Recording Engineering. I then started working in the corporate AV industry under PSAV for several years before I joined the team at DAS Audio. My background includes running FOH/monitors, system design and system tech.
CPM: What are the challenges you observe for sound engineers in the church market?
Gonzalez: Many churches employ volunteers and personnel with less-than-optimal experience in audio. My mission is to help educate and train church audio operators to obtain optimal results and improve the overall performance of their audio systems. The sound system is only part of the equation—proper installation, mic positioning, processing and mixing are key elements in system performance. My goal is to provide the best audio solution and post-sales support and education. Other challenges in the house of worship market are reduced budgets and challenging venue acoustics.
CPM: What attracted you to DAS Audio?
Gonzalez: The company philosophy and family atmosphere. Prior to joining DAS Audio, I was employed by a local production house, Interface sound, and I had the opportunity to use DAS Audio gear and work closely with the Miami team. During that time, I became a fan of their products and admired the way they ran their operation.
CPM: What do you want churches to remember about the DAS Audio brand?
Gonzalez: That at the core we are a family-owned and run company, motivated by giving our customers the highest quality European-made product at a highly competitive price point. Very few audio manufacturers exist today that are not owned or managed by large holding investment firms, and we believe that is a detriment to our industry.
CPM: How do you view the actual state of the house of worship market?
Gonzalez: I believe it is a very exciting time in the church market. More and more we see the the house of worship market implementing newer AV technology and seeing the importance of providing their congregations with a superior [auditory] experience.
CPM: What unique solutions does DAS Audio offer the church marketplace?
Gonzalez: DAS Audio provides the house of worship marketplace with a cost-effective, high-quality sound reinforcement system made in Europe. We provide superior QC, as we manufacture and assemble over 90% of our components and electronics in house. [This] leads to us being able to service existing and discontinued products for many years, giving customers peace of mind when investing in our product line.
