Ministries with complex worship and streaming layouts get bottlenecked at one particular point—embedding audio from the stage into their broadcast feed, or occasionally a vice versa situation arises when they need to run playback from a control room into an audio console for front-of-house. Getting all that gear to talk to each other can be a bit messy, and often requires some resourcefulness on the part of video and audio directors to get it done.

But now AJA has built a solution to streamline the whole process, the OG-Dante -12GAM card for Open Gear, a simple rack insert that takes Dante audio and marries it to SDI infrastructure. Bob Baker, the Chief Technology Architect for Clark Productions breaks it down for us in today’s video.
“Before when we were using analog or AES, you had to wire all that up, but you also had to configure it. And so that's where this is so nice because now I'm already setting up other gear on my open gear frame, whether it be in coders, decoders, DAW’s, whatever. I'm setting all that up on there. Now I just go to this Open Gear card by AJA and I go into the settings for what I want to do where, but then I go to the Dante configurator, right? And I go in there and it just pops up just like another audio board,” Bob says.

This works both ways, too, “So I can take any of the 64 channels of audio off of the [Dante] network and can then embed that into that SDI or the opposite, right? So I can pull off four channels of audio from my playback device and send that to the audio guys so they can track it in the house.”
And to really sweeten the deal, the AJA card even converts sample rates. Bob was really about that particular point, “I think maybe one of the biggest things that surprised me was the sample rate conversion. I think that was something we didn't know they were going to do and which is great because like I've said before, there's churches we have that are doing all 96K and not 48. And that's great because it just works.”
