From a mixing standpoint, vocals and drums offer some of the biggest challenges for church sound engineers, including the audio team at The Belonging Co. in Nashville. They were spending a lot of time working on mics to get the sound they wanted.
"...you're immediately going to hear the sonic difference in clarity.” - Brenton Miles, Audio Director, The Belonging Co., Nashville, TN
As part of a Church Production Road Test User Experience, DPA sent the church their DLK4000 Live Microphone Kit to test out. Over the last few months, The Belonging Co.'s Audio Director, Brenton Miles says the mics made a really big difference.
“Even the drummers -- like week one when we started using the mics -- it was like, ‘Oh, what changed? This sounds amazing!’ When we went from what microphones we had on the kit to this kit, we basically could go and turn our EQs off, and it still sounded really great,” Miles enthuses.
For vocals as well, he says they just weren't having to work as hard on the console. “You're going to notice a big difference going from a standard dynamic wired microphone to using the 4018V or 4018VL on a vocal, you're immediately going to hear the sonic difference in clarity,” Miles adds. “Being able to actually try a lot of these microphones on various different things was really special. I would say with this kit particularly, you're going to get the most impressive sound out of the source...”
