“Plan the work and work the plan.” That’s the motto used by Travis Hutchins, resident AV/IT expert and member of Concord Baptist Church in Cumming, Ga. He is an experienced IT veteran who worked for decades in charge of public television, voting systems, audio and video systems for the Georgia State Capital General Assembly and he is helping to bring the power of video to his church.
Hutchins now manages the online properties and the audio-visual production for Concord Baptist. While the church had been using older PTZ cameras to record and archive sermons for the past couple of years, Hutchins knew better options were available to improve picture quality and take the sermons live to the internet.
“We weren’t live streaming videos initially. The pastor loved the idea but lots of other things are involved with hardware, interfaces, cabling, and the other entities of a camera to face,” says Hutchins.
“I’m really impressed with the picture quality. Using that as my primary web stream cam makes a really big difference,” says Hutchins. “With the AVer AV (TR530) camera, the quality is far superior to the older Sony equipment. It’s worked out really nice. I like the web interface that allows you to remote in and to control your camera via your browser.” He also appreciates the camera’s ease of set-up, which he says takes about five minutes, and the ease of use. Hutchins has been able to use a few different software options to live stream video using Aver, which he says he appreciates as well.
In the near future he would like to replace all of his existing cameras. He plans to add an AVer PTZ controller and more AVer PTZ cameras for even better productions. Hutchins says the ability to stream sermons live has opened up a whole new audience and allows current members who are limited in getting out each Sunday to experience the event in their own homes. “It gives you a new avenue to get your message out that wasn’t available 10 years ago and it’s getting more cost-effective.”
Asked what advice he would give churches just getting into live video streaming he says, “Plan the work and work the plan. Get the proper software, hardware and camera with a budget setup. Expectations need to meet the budget. Be realistic, know your budget and see what you can achieve with that budget.”
