Summer is over, and I’m thinking about the events that are ramping up for fall. I’m sure you are too, production leader. It would do us both some good to pause and pray a few prayers before we dive into the next few months of events and weekend services.
1st Prayer: Lord, this isn’t about me.
Yes, this is my job and I take satisfaction in my work. I am building my reputation and rapport, but this job is not about me or my career advancement or anything like that. This job is about You and your people, Lord. “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us (I Cor 5:18-20).”
Thank you for entrusting this ministry to me, Lord.
2nd Prayer: Lord, make me a servant.
Lord, I remind myself that Christ “...made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant.” (Phil 2:7) I am here to serve my church and in serving my church to serve you. I will take on the likeness of Christ by bringing myself low and supporting the needs of my team and my leadership, making their priorities my own. Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to serve them.
3rd Prayer: Lord, give me wisdom.
Lord, this is not an easy job; I would not treat it so lightly. I need wisdom. You said in your word, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5) So, I ask you, Lord, for wisdom in this season. Wisdom to lead my team, to foster relationships with and between them, to make good financial decisions, to communicate well with my team and my leadership, to foster the vision and mission of this church where you have called me. Thank for giving me this wisdom so generously, and help me to hear it from wherever you speak it, whether within my heart, through the lips of my friends or family, or from your word.
Amen.
