At times in the technology field, being “seasoned” is not always looked upon as a good thing.
With the rate that today's technology changes and the types of technology that are more readily available to younger people, becoming seasoned is happening at a much earlier age than ever before. Some people say when you hit “seasoned status” you become wise and experienced, but others may say you become irrelevant or aren't as up-to-date on the current technology and trends as the younger people are. Even though this couldn't be further from the truth, this sometimes causes the more experienced people to become distraught and stuck. They hit “mid-life crisis” mode in their careers, and just like in life, our human nature tells us we're done. But that thinking is nothing but destructive. It comes from Satan himself. This time in a person's career is just another season. Each one delivers its rewards and it's challenges as change approaches. Being aware of these seasons, the changes they bring, and how to face them are some of the most important things we can do—and the hardest to overcome.
The first season we enter is a time of learning.
Think of it like mountain climbing. You approach the base of the mountain, look up, and have mixed emotions filled with excitement and fear about climbing it. Everything is new and exciting. You're introduced to new things, people, and experiences. You glean what you can from others and begin to learn how to operate in your environment. Dreaming big dreams and sharpening your skills becomes a daily exercise. You're beginning the rest of your life and nothing can stand in your way.
As you enter season two, you begin climbing the mountain.
God has placed you in the season you’re in for a reason.
Although there may be struggles, you fight through them and begin to make a name for yourself. Even though learning is still taking place, knowledge has been gained and is now being used in real-world situations. Trust is being earned and confidence is being built. You work hard, trail blaze, and know that one day all of the countless hours and effort will be worth it.
Next is season three. All of the trials, hard work, and perseverance have paid off. You've made it to the mountain's summit.
You're on top of the world reflecting on everything God has done in your life to this point and everything He's allowed you to be a part of. But if you're on top of the world, you begin to ask yourself where you go from there? Soon the feelings of accomplishment are replaced by feelings of fear, worthlessness and discontentment. Soon, confusion begins to set in.
So enters season four. In my opinion, the most undervalued and difficult season to enter, but the most rewarding.
It's a time some people can't endure because they can't see past themselves. They feel like they've “peaked” and have nothing more to offer. Quite often it happens without even knowing it. But this season doesn't have to be a time of confusion and fear, but a time of using the experiences God has given you to make a difference in the life of someone else. Pouring into others and multiplying yourself through them is what season four is all about.
Today, challenge yourself to find new perspective. God has placed you in the season you're in for a reason. If that's a season of mentoring, be grateful for that opportunity and use the experiences God has entrusted to you to make a difference in another person's life. Help them on their journey to become not only great in their career, but in life as well. Our experiences are a gift from God. Don't keep that gift to yourself. Share it and multiply yourself.
“You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.”
