Andrew Monheim, President and Founder, Monheim Microphones and original bottle mic designer Martins Saulespurens.
Twenty-eight years ago, at the 101st AES Show, the very first bottle microphone was introduced to the world. Since 1996, the bottle microphone has become an industry standard for high-fidelity recording and sonic flexibility.
The man behind this classic microphone, designer Martins Saulespurens, has been a leading designer of microphones globally for thirty years. Known for challenging the status-quo with innovation, Saulespurens’ work has helped shape the microphone industry.
"It is with great honor, that Monheim Microphones celebrates the history and lineage of Martins’ work by recreating the original classic microphone known and loved by artists and industry professionals around the world. To original specs and overseen by the original production and assembly team, Monheim Microphones proudly presents The Monheim Bottle Microphone, which will be available in 2025,” states Andrew Monheim, who is president and founder of Monheim Microphones.
Finely tuned with original components, transformer designs, and a new set of capsules, the Monheim Bottle is being made to set new standards for the future. This version of the bottle will serve to support all prior B-head capsules, as well as vintage Neumann capsule assemblies.
Monheim will open the bottle microphone as a standard platform to collaborate with other manufacturers, producers, and capsule designers throughout the industry, and will consider all integration ideas allowing for other classic and future capsule designs to be imagined on the bottle platform.
"Our goal is to make the bottle accessible to everyone in the industry and bring sounds and designs from the past, present, and future to the table for the user. Expect the user customization and user interface to be the best it has ever been for anyone recording music,” Monheim concludes.
