LED wash fixtures have been around for some time, but it took several years for manufacturers to get powerful enough LED's and perfect the optics systems for the possibility of a spot LED fixture to become reality. Judging from all the new LED fixtures the premiered at LDI this past month, lighting technology has progressed to a point where several manufacturers are now offering these groundbreaking fixtures. One of these new spot moving lights is the PR Lighting XRLED 500 Spot, distributed in the US by San Antonio, Texas-abased Mega Systems.
Just announced, we're told this new LED fixture features a four-in-one, 280-watt LED with RGBW (red, green, blue, white) linearly adjustable color changing system. The white LED allows the designer a wide palette of warm and cool whites. In fact, this XRLED 500 Spot fixture allows the designer an extremely wide color temperature range of 2,700 to 10,000 kelvin.
In addition, the new product announcement says the XRLED 500 Spot features a beam zoom of 12 to 36 degrees, a bi-directional 1X3 facet prism, a variable speed bi-directional rainbow effect, a 5-100% linearly adjusted iris with macro, one fixed seven-slot gobo wheel (plus open) and one rotating seven-slot gobo wheel (plus open). We are glad to see that the new unit has standard gobos which are quite useful for theatrical and worship applications.
The XRLED 500 Spot has a fast moving with 540-degree pan and 270-degree tilt with auto position correction. The unit also features a 0.3 to 20 F.P.S strobe and a linearly adjustable dimmer. It is controlled via DMX and weighs less than 60 lbs. The fixture is controlled in three channel DMX modes: Short mode: 18 channels, Standard mode: 22 channels, and Extended mode: 30 channels.
For those who doubt the ability for LED moving lights to compete against HID (high-intenside discharge lamp), a side-by-side comparison proves that when projecting saturated colors many of these new LED fixtures are just as bright, or brighter than 575-watt arc fixtures. This was proven at many of the manufacturer's demo booths at LDI. We expect the XRLED 500 Spot to perform similarly.
We are looking forward to reviewing this exciting competitor in the growing LED Moving Light market.
