CODA Audio Sensor-Controlled Subwoofers
CODA Audio Sensor-Controlled subwoofers come in three different models: the SC2-F sensor controlled low-frequency extension; the SCV-F compact single 18-inch high output sensor controlled subwoofer; and the SCP-F, a double 18-inch extremely high output sensor controlled subwoofer. Designed to eliminate the issues associated with the nonlinear distortion produced by conventional subwoofers themselves, CODA has incorporated transducers featuring an integrated velocity sensor that measures the diaphragm movement in real time and compares it with the input audio signal. CODA explains that this proprietary sensor-controlled technology is self-optimizing, with a closed feedback loop that determines how much power the driver needs to accurately reproduce the audio signal, resulting in instant correction of any distortion produced by the driver or the enclosure.
DAS Audio Quantum Series
DAS Audio’s Quantum Series of active and passive subwoofers include the Q-10A and Q-10A-W, and the Q-10/Q-10W (the “W” stands for “white”). Designed for small- and medium-sized installations, Q-10A/Q-10A-W active subwoofer features a Class D switched mode amplifier, two signal inputs, a variable low-pass filter, and parameter adjustment (deep/loud) with DAScontrol technology. Its frequency range is 40Hz to 200Hz. The Q-10/Q-10-W is a passive version of the Q-10A/Q-10A-W, and, like its active counterpart, is designed for small- to medium-sized applications.
d&b audiotechnik B8d&b
audiotechnik’s B8 subwoofer was designed with tight spaces in mind, and can be installed under stages, stairs, or ceilings in either landscape or portrait configurations; it can also be flush-mounted or flown with other loudspeakers. Its compact form factor measures 6.7 inches in height, and features a low frequency extension from 170Hz down to 43Hz. It’s an active subwoofer, equipped with two 6.5-inch drivers with ferret magnets in a bass-reflex cabinet design. The B8 can output a maximum SPL of 122dB.
Electro-Voice EVC Series
Electro-Voice’s EV-Innovation category of installation loudspeaker systems includes the EVC Series. The series comprises five models, including an 18-inch subwoofer. The input panel is equipped with an internal landing pad for mounting EV’s TK150 audio transformer (this is for 70V/100V operation). The transformer engages EV’s Automatic Saturation Compensation (ASC) to preserve low frequency performance while at the same time delivering a stable load to the amplifier (no matter how many speakers are connected in parallel). For outdoor applications, weather-resistant PI versions are available, featuring stainless steel grilles, hydrophobic cloth, and a dual gland nut cover for the input panel.
K-array Rumble-KU212
The Rumble-KU212 ultra-thin, high-power passive subwoofer is the largest in the manufacturer’s Rumble line. Designed as a companion to K-array’s Installed Sound speakers, it is suited for medium and large applications. It features a 12-inch neodymium transducer in combination with a 12-inch passive transducer, and measures 13” x 26 “ x 8”. The KU212 is made entirely of steel, enabling it to be used outdoors and protecting it from dust, sand, and water. It is available in elegant black or subtle white (customized RAL colors are also available, in addition to brushed, polished, and 24K gold-plated).
L-Acoustics KS21
L-Acoustics ARCS family of loudspeakers includes the KS21, a dedicated subwoofer introduced last spring. ARCS speakers deliver a throw of up to 45 meters, and can be configured for a number of coverage patterns. The units can be mounted, stacked, or flown in a vertical or horizontal line source array, and are designed for modular, scalable,plug-and-play use. The KS21delivers a maximum of 138dB.
Meyer Sound 750-LFC
Designed for integration with the company’s LINA compact line array loudspeakers, Meyer Sound’s 750-LFC offers low frequency control for extending deep bass across a range of 36Hz to 125Hz. The unit is equipped with a 15-inch, dual voice coil long excursion driver, as well as a two-channel open loop Class D amplifier plus signal processing that provides separate, synchronized power to each voice coil. Meyer Sound declares that the speaker is capable of reproducing low frequencies at high, continuous levels with clarity, minimum distortion, and optimized phase response.
Renkus-Heinz ICLX-118S
The ICLX-118S by Renkus-Heinz is a high-output, direct radiating subwoofer. Designed as a complement to the manufacturer’s ICLive X Series, the speaker provides additional bass when needed. (When used alone, it also serves to increase sub-bass or low frequency extension.) The unit houses a built-in SA2000 power amplifier with a DSP featuring eight fully parametric EQ filters, high and low shelf and high and low pass filters, and up to 340 ms. of delay. (These features can be accessed via a Windows PC that runs RHAON II control software.) Renkus-Heinz’ ICLX118S-RD model incorporates Dante signal distribution capabilities, including network redundancy and AES67 compatibility.
QSC KS118
Suitable for both mobile use and permanent installations, QSC’s new KS118 active subwoofer is designed to deliver dynamic, musical reproduction of low frequencies. The unit features a long excursion 18-inch direct radiating driver and is powered by a 3,600-watt Class D amplifier. Its onboard DSP enables users to array two units in a cardioid configuration, which results in maximized low frequency output in front while minimizing energy around the sides and rear of the speaker. The KS118 also features DEEP mode, which allows for additional low frequency extension and driver excursion processing. Aluminum handles and four rear-mounted casters facilitate transport.
NEXO L15
Measuring 650mm wide x 430mm high x 550mm deep and weighing 35Kg, the L15 sub employs a 15-inch long excursion driver in a Baltic birch/poplar plywood cabinet with threaded inserts for mounting accessories and an M20 stand fitting. With a frequency range of 40Hz-120Hz, and 139dB Peak SPL, the L15 is specially designed in a footprint to match the P12, making it an ideal partner in flown applications, and for use as a drum fill.
