The entire Church Production Magazine staff was thrilled to be part of a very successful and well-attended WFX Atlanta in early November. For some of our administrative and design staff, this is the only event of the year where they get to interact with our readers and advertisers.
Held November 3-5 at Atlanta's Cobb Galleria, the event featured a Technical Director's Retreat, a worship concert, more than 80 seminars and an expo floor with over 200 exhibiting companies. Attendance was up nearly 30% from 2009.
Being immersed for three days in the frenzy of information and interaction that is WFX is an incredibly rewarding experience. But the most rewarding takeaway is the focus on people. In an event that could be perceived as being all about the gear and cool buildings, the recurring theme I heard from attendees and exhibitors was a genuine focus on people. The tools and technologies that are discussed and displayed at WFX are simply means for people in ministry to do their jobs more effectively-to be God's hands and feet. Without the Holy Spirit, these tools are just electronics and empty shells. But when God breathes his life into them they are instruments for life change.
The focus of WFX was wonderfully illustrated in a brief conversation I had with an exhibitor as I was leaving the worship concert at WFX Atlanta. I found myself walking out just behind the VP of a large technology company-a company whose products are used in a wide variety of A/V installations worldwide. When I said hello, he stopped, put his hand on my arm and with tears in his eyes he told me it's events like that (the worship concert) where the Gospel is proclaimed; that's the reason why he does what he does.
Amen brother, it's why we do what we do too.
