August Kuehn is business administrator at Grace Church in Granger, Ind., as well as FOH engineer at Notre Dame Stadium. Kuehn is organizing donations of surplus A/V gear for churches in Texas, and now Florida affected by recent hurricanes.
When natural disasters strike, people are known to rise to the occasion and help their fellow man. So as Texas flood waters raged following Hurricane Harvey in late August 2017, locals and others around the nation set to work helping one other. Even miles and states away, people were considering how to provide aide to Hurricane-ravaged churches.
“As I saw the news reports of the significant and widespread damage in Texas, my mind went to the dozens of churches that must be completely wiped out,” says August Kuehn, business administrator at Grace Church in Granger, Ind., as well as FOH engineer at Notre Dame Stadium. “And I thought [about what] would be a tangible way I could help out from so far away.”
After some thought and prayer, Kuehn’s way to help turned out to be setting up a gear surplus initiative, called Media Team Central, whereby churches could donate old, gently used AVL gear to church technical staff hit hard by Harvey.
“I think that as a tech community, we can do so much good when we all partner together,” Kuehn says.
“Anyone wanting to donate surplus gear [for] affected churches in Texas, and now Florida, can email me at augustkuehn@gmail.com,” he adds. “I am working on a website called mediateamcentral.com, as well, that will be used to list gear that is available to churches that need it.”
Where does Kuehn see the Media Team Central initiative heading in the future? “I am willing to make this a much larger effort, partnering with churches all across the country to help our brothers and sisters in need. Churches that have gear to donate or are in need of gear are welcome to contact me,” Kuehn closes.
