Genelec has debuted its new 8351 Smart Active Monitor at the 2017 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California. Featuring new technology derived from other models in the company's line of studio reference monitors, Genelec's announcement says the 8351 offers extremely accurate imaging and transparent sound quality both on and off-axis.
The heart of the three-way 8351 monitor is the company's minimum diffraction coaxial midrange/tweeter. Aesthetically, users will notice the absence of any visible woofers which are concealed beneath the waveguide. This unique arrangement allows the monitor to be positioned in both a vertical or horizontal arrangement with little change in directivity characteristics.
As an active monitor, the box features a combination of Genelec-designed Class D amplifiers for the bass and midrange drivers with a discrete Class A/B amplifier for the tweeter. Additionally, the box includes the company's SAM (Smart Active Monitoring) technology. SAM creates a computer controlled network of monitors and fully aligns the system in regards to level, timing, and room response equalization. This adaptive feature is helpful for sound engineers in broadcasting, post production, music studios, and remote recording environments.
The 8351 monitor is now shipping from dealers and retailers worldwide.
