Westside Family Church, Lenexa, Kansas, by Mantel Teter
Given a mission of “All In,” Westside Family Church in Lenexa, Kansas, prepared space to reach 1,000 new families in Johnson County. The church has continued to experience steady growth over the past few years, according to sources at architect Mantel Teter in Gladstone, Missouri. and has reached a peak for capacity, especially in its worship, children, and student areas. Recognizing this fact, the church began to strategically plan to accomplish its mission.
The project's scope included adding space to the existing atrium/lobby to access a new 500-seat video venue auditorium.
Mantel Teter was selected to lead the church staff team through the process of visioning and discovery in order to design ministry spaces that will meet the church's objectives, while containing the project within an established budget. Through the process, the church also engaged a general contractor to partner early on and assist with cost estimating and cost control.
The project's scope included adding space to the existing atrium/lobby to access a new 500-seat video venue auditorium. This space also flows seamlessly to serve the existing 1,100-seat main auditorium. Newly created student ministry space flanks this new lobby in the form of middle school and high school auditoriums with hang-out space themed for fun. Renovations provided an additional auditorium for children’s ministry and rebalanced the children’s environments to the new worship capacities. Additional staff offices are also included with the renovations.
Outside, the exterior of the facilities blend and match the existing architectural styling, materials, and language.
